TO THE FOLLOWING POLICIES
With your support, Christchurch 2021’s ECan
team will consult with our community to:
Charge major commercial water users for 70%
of ECan’s water management costs. This will transfer costs
from ratepayers to major water users. For Christchurch Ratepayers
this will mean a saving of $4,200,000 from 1June 2008
Ensure that the groundwater recharge zone for Christchurch’s
pure drinking water is protected from further
industrial, commercial and residential development.
Implement the Restorative Programme for Lowland Streams,
keeping water and life in our streams and giving security to
farmers.
Complete the Clean Heat Project so that Christchurch
meets the National Environmental Standard for Air Quality by
2013.
Protect Christchurch’s green
belt from urban sprawl by ensuring the Greater Christchurch
Urban Development Strategy is implemented, with approprtae
policies included in the Regional Policy Statement
Designate corridors for the
eventual introduction of light rail.
Complete the Waimakariri Regional
Park to the Waimakariri Gorge.
Explore the concept of a “Mountains to Sea”
bike trail from Arthur’s Pass to the mouth of
the Waimakariri, with landowners and key stakeholders.
