How Do I Vote?

Voting in the local body elections is by postal vote. On or about 21 September you will be sent a postal vote form in the mail. This form will be specific to the ward in which you reside with the names of the candidates for which you can vote. If you have moved and not updated your enrolment details then the form will go to your old address and be for the candidates relevant to your old address, we urge you to update your details if you have moved and not recently received an enrolment form from the Electoral office. You have three weeks until midday Saturday 13 October to return the voting papers to the Christchurch City Council. We suggest you post your vote early as votes received after midday will not be counted.

All voting is by a simple first past the post method except for the District Health Board election which is done by STV (Single Transferable Vote). You can find more information on the STV system at: http://www.stv.govt.nz

Mayor: 1 vote
City Council: 2 votes (Banks Peninsula Ward: 1 vote)
Community Board: 5 votes
Regional Council (Environment Canterbury): 2 votes
Canterbury District Health Board: 7 votes.

We urge to make your votes positive choices by voting for your Christchurch 2021 candidates.
