Press Release
Community battler deserves our support

08 June 2007

Community battler, Joan Fazackerley, is continuing her mission to get the names of local Hornby boys killed in WWII put on the Hornby War Memorial at Hornby Primary School. She would like to thank those in the community who have come forward to offer their services so far.

Wayne Harris of 'Wet and Forget Treatments', and Duncan Creelman from 'Hire Equip' Following an article in this paper on the Hornby War Memorial Wayne Harris of "Wet and Forget Treatments", and Duncan Creelman from "Hire Equip" joined forces last Saturday to voluntarily treat the memorial.

"I would like to publicly thank Wayne and Duncan for coming forward to offer their services to our community in helping restore this historic treasure", Joan Fazackerley said.

The next step is the repair of the concrete steps at the base of the memorial, which are showing the effects of the passage of almost 90 years since it was erected so proudly by the small community of Hornby at that time.

City Council Candidate, Tony Milne, has offered Joan his assistance and full support and has been corresponding and meeting with Joan to help her cut through the bureaucracy.

"I was disturbed that Joan had been struggling for 18 months to get some straight answers. Sometimes you have to say, 'the buck stops with me' and get stuck in and get something done. Our community should be thankful we have people like Joan, Wayne and Duncan who are working to achieve positive things for our community", Tony Milne said.

Working on the memorial Joan Fazackerley with the assistance of Tony Milne will continue the mission to get the Roll of Honour of local WWII boys who lost their lives in that conflict on the memorial. There would also be an expression of gratitude to all who served their country in that and subsequent wars.
