My vision for the future of the Riccarton/Wigram Community Ward is to strengthen local communities to care for and support families, the older person and create opportunities for youth. I have campaigned vigorously to ban the increase of "pokie" machines which are destroying individuals and families.
I have lived in New Zealand for 33 years and in Christchurch for 26 years and have excellent community networks both in the Chinese and Ethnic communities. I am able to liaise between all our communities due to the nature of my work. I have extensive working experience with a range of Government and community organisations across Christchurch, including Police, Immigration, Work & Income, Probation, Prison Services, Child Youth & Family and the Problem Gambling Foundation.
I am Chinese and married to Sandra (European descent). We have a blended family of six teenage children. I work as the Asian social worker/counsellor and Project Leader for the Problem Gambling Foundation and prior to that I was a residential social worker for Child Youth & Family. I am a Justice of the Peace.
