After representing you, the Riccarton / Wigram Ward residents
and business people for 15 years on the Community Board, I now
wish for your support to represent you at the Council Table.
I have also served you for 2 terms as Chair of the Community Board.
I know the area, the issues and problems. I enjoy making contact
with you when an issue arises and working through to a satisfactory
outcome.
This Ward has some real issues with growth and development, including
the Wigram Air Base, Halswell, Aidenfield, and Awatea Block. The
construction of the Southern Motorway is due to start in 2008/9.
Our Ward is where the major growth and development will take place
over the next 7 to 10 years. We need to get it right and minimise
any negative side effects on our existing residents and Communities.
Transport, traffic and roading have been my specialty areas along
with a range of social matters affecting our Communities. I have
lived and worked in this Ward for over 40 years.
I have led the development of the Blenheim Road Deviation, Expansion
of Halswell Domain, the new Community Hall in Templeton, and the
proposed new Aquatic Facility, along with solutions to traffic
congestion and other issues surrounding Hornby Mall. We must not
forget our rural residents and their particular issues. I won't
forget the basics of Rubbish, Road maintenance and Rates. I am
committed to keeping our essential services in public ownership.
I have the knowledge and experience to represent you well at City
Council level. Being part of the 2021 team will give me added
support to achieve the Goals we set for the City through our vision
for the best City in New Zealand by the year 2021.
