Laurence Malcolm for the District Health Board

I'm a doctor and present Board member. I'm also a former Professor of Community Health with a wide national and international experience in health and medical services.

My priorities are:
  • improving access to primary care;
  • reducing waiting lists;
  • improving clinical quality and
  • promoting better relationships between doctors and management.
During my time as a Board member we have had many successes in improving your health services, despite a media focus on bad news. We now have a fairer share of health funding for Canterbury and better value from the money allocated.

We have also been successful in achieving many of the goals of 2021 such as;
  • improving access with a new Women's Hospital and reduced waiting lists
  • 98% enrolment in primary health organisations with much reduced GP fees
  • improving relationships between GP and specialist services
  • big improvements in services for older people
I've served on many local, national and international committees, including for the World Health Organisation. As a current member of the Executive of Age Concern Canterbury I have a special interest in the health care of the elderly. I'm keen to use my extensive experience to build on our Board's many achievements, and look forward to your support for me and the Health 2021 team.
