Jimmy Royal for Fendalton Waimairi Community Board
I was born in Beijing, where I completed my university studies. I have lived in Christchurch for 18 years with my wife and two children.
I have held senior positions in the tertiary education sector and was deputy director of China University Training Centre and a Senior Advisor of the China Centre for International Educational Exchange. In China I held senior positions with the Midland Bank Group and a large Japanese Corporation.
I am a company director having established the Royal Business College 11 years ago. Despite the adverse effects of the high New Zealand dollar the College continues to attract foreign students to our Christchurch and Auckland campuses.
With a free trade deal between New Zealand and China on the horizon Christchurch City needs the environmental, economic and cultural infrastructure to take advantage of our economic growth potential. I am actively engaged in a number of Christchurch committees fostering economic, business, tourism and educational ties between China and the Garden City. Thanks to Christchurch 2021, I now have the chance to seek your vote to join our team and continue that work on the Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board.
We have a good library system in Christchurch and some of New Zealand's iconic cultural facilities. These are important to the City's life. Christchurch has a lead on other New Zealand cities in our determination to strengthen these institutions, providing all of Christchurch's citizens access to education, information and cultural resources.
Christchurch, and especially the Fendalton/Waimairi Ward can be proud of its ethnic diversity and our ability to celebrate the richness of all our peoples. I believe in the work of the Inter-Cultural Assembly and will encourage the Council to continue its support.
