My goal when elected is to make use of the experience and knowledge gained during the last three years as a member of the 2021 team elected to Environment Canterbury representing Christchurch North. Before that I was elected to the Shirley/Papanui Community Board for three terms, so I have strong links with, and knowledge of the local scene, and that has been of great value when addressing the issues that affect our part of Christchurch. My employment background as a health professional/manager in the hospital and community sector also gives me knowledge, experience and skills that empower me to engage with people and represent their concerns and issues very effectively. To me it is vital to hear and understand the full range of concerns people have, and to have the knowledge and expertise to absorb fully and make good judgement on the very technical/scientific issues put before the council. Another tool I have that I find helps me greatly with that is my farming upbringing, family connections and outdoor recreation experience.
My vision and commitment are well defined by the 2021 Vision, and my goal is to
continue working with the team to build on the great gains we've made during the last term.
Much work still needs to be done. The quality of our air is improving, but we must continue to apply focus and energy to this problem. Plans have now been made to protect
our groundwater and enhance our transport systems. The task is to ensure those plans are now properly carried out.
