Ruth Dyson, Labour's MP for the Port Hills Electorate, has endorsed Jim Anderton for Mayor and The People's Choice 2021 team for Christchurch's upcoming local body elections in October. "I think Jim Anderton and The People's Choice team will be a fantastic choice for this election," said Ruth Dyson yesterday.
"I know Jim very well and his experience will be a wonderful asset for Christchurch. I agree with his desire to make our city a better place to live, a better place for families, a place for people once again."
The 2021 Vision Statement sees a city based on social justice with a fair go for all. "This Vision goes to the heart of what Labour stands for and is one that I personally find very easy to support."
"The People's Choice 2021 team want a city where all its people have access to warm housing, good education and affordable leisure facilities. My position as Opposition Spokesperson for Health means I know very well how much difference this will make to our Christchurch citizens."
Standing for election to Council in Hagley-Ferrymead is Yani Johanson, a current Councillor for Hagley Ferrymead, and Peter Taylor. "I respect Yani for his determination to keep working for what he believes in. I know he will get great support from Peter as they find ways to protect and enhance our way of life," said Ruth Dyson
The team has serving board member Brenda Lowe-Johnson, together with James Dann, Paul Findlay and Islay McLeod standing for Community Board in the Hagley-Ferrymead ward. "These people will make an important contribution to protecting our water, making our streets safer and building stronger communities," Ruth Dyson commented yesterday.
In the Spreydon-Heathcote ward, Tim Scandrett is standing for Council as part of The People's Choice team. Sir Kerry Burke is also standing as an Independent, with the endorsement of Jim Anderton. He grew up in the ward and represented it on Environment Canterbury for over 11 years. Ruth Dyson said, "Both of these candidates will bring their experience to the Council table and will be forceful advocates for the people of the area."
For the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board, there are serving members Phil Clearwater and Karolin Potter, as well as Paul McMahon and Ben Ross. "I know these people will work hard for their community and their concerns about road safety, older people and the environment will get them the support of voters at election time," said Ruth Dyson.
"I will be supporting Jim Anderton and The People's Choice 2021 team during this election campaign and I hope you can give them your vote for Mayor, Council and Community Board."
